Aline: A year of opportunities

Aline fled Burundi, and lived in a refugee camp for 18 years in Tanzania before coming to the United States about three years ago. She and her husband have three children.

The first time a volunteer with Tapestry Farms met Aline, she was at the home of a friend. She did not speak. The second time she encountered Aline, again at the home of a friend, she did not speak. The third time? She asked one of the younger kids in the house if someone could give her a ride home. Aline and the volunteer discovered they lived six blocks from each other.

Through an interpreter, Aline said what she really wanted was to go to school to learn English.

Aline became the first client of Tapestry Farms.

A team of people drove her to and from school two nights a week. She asked for help to get a job - and now she plays a vital role on the cleaning crew at an area elementary school. And then, Aline got her driver’s license.

Aline and her husband recently purchased their own home. The people of Tapestry Farms walked alongside them through that process, too. It was a joy to say: welcome home.
