Vacant lot, no more

For 25 years, this lot has sat vacant after an apartment building burned to the ground. If you know downtown Davenport, it's at Third and Brown streets, just west of the entrance to the Centennial Bridge.

In November, a generous woman with deep roots in the Quad-Cities purchased this lot. She is leasing it to Tapestry Farms for $1. In the coming year, we will set forth on transforming this land into a piece of our urban farm system, where all sorts of wonderful things will grow - food, love, and community. We will invest in refugees. We will invest in this area. And we will forge ahead on our goal of abundantly feeding all.

Why did she purchase this land? "My passions are focused on women and children, affordable housing, and sustainable food systems. This gave me a way to invest in community redevelopment in a sustainable way, and I'm fortunately in a position to do so. I encourage other people to think about south of Locust and west of Brady."

We are so thankful for this gift, and are really looking forward to the hard work - and joy - that's ahead.
